Curling Hair - The Edwardian Way

What you need:

· Curlers

· Egg

· Water

· Bowl

· Comb

1. Brush your hair free of knots and tangles

2. Break the egg and separate the yolk and white

3. Pour some water into the bowl with the egg white. You want it to be about the same volume as the white.

4. Beat the mixture until the water and white are evenly mixed.

5. Separate your hair into small strands

6. Dip your comb into the mixture

7. Moisten the strand well and then twist the strand around until it is like a little rope.

8. Put your curler at the end nearest your head and wind the hair onto the curler.

This was done every other day at night time to keep the hair beautifully curled.

If you don't fancy that, here is another one taken from a 1908 ladies magazine:

Hair Curling Fluid

Tbsp of quince seed to a pint of hot water.

The hot water is poured over the seeds and allowed to stand for several hours.

Thin the mixture with a few drops of violet essence.

Moisten the hair with this fluid before curling it.
