The table should be spread with a white cloth, a rustic basket, oblong in shape, covered with moss or ferns, placed in the middle of the table and filled with bunches of feathery golden rod, is a decoration unequalled for its beauty and simplicity. Bunch of golden rod should be arranged and caught at the corners of the table, or a centre can be made of a dish or basket of golden ripe pears with a few delicately tinted grapes and sprays of golden rod scattered over the table. The china should be pure white or white and gold.
The light soup is a clear consommé, served in small cups, in each of which is placed a poached egg. The peanolia sandwiches are thin white bread sliced spread with this rich nut butter, trimmed and cut to suit the fancy. This is an enjoyable little luncheon for the early autumn.
